What are the benefits? 

The healing process of the skin induced by microneedling can help to even out the skin, reduce the appearance of scars and help improve the skin’s elasticity and tone. Microneedling has gained popularity during the last years thanks to a variety of benefits and a little to no existing downtime. It is used to rejuvenate the skin with minimal discomfort and the procedure can be easily adapted to everyone’s needs.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Like all procedures, microneedling carries some risks. The most common side effect is skin irritation immediately after the procedure. You may also see some redness for a few days. Call your doctor if you notice more severe side effects, such as bleeding, bruising or infection.

Preparing for microneedling

Before the procedure, consider talking to your skin expert or doctor about how to prepare for your appointment. You may need to stop taking certain medications, such as ibuprofen and oral retinoids and avoid using agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin, such as exfoliants or topical retinoids.

The optimal post-procedure care

Since your skin is sensitive after your procedure, it’s best to avoid sun exposure and chemical exfoliants during your first week of recovery.

You can help your skin heal after microneedling by staying hydrated, using a NextGen® Technology serum with antioxidants and using a soothing mask or cream such as Regen [Hx].

REGEN [Hx] can be used to sooth and calm the irritated and fragile skin, the post-procedure skin, and it will help improve the skin’s appearance when used at least 2-times a day during a week following a microneedling procedure: it will help by soothing and restoring the protective skin barrier. Important tips: Since the skin is fragile and sensitive after the procedure. It’s very important to avoid sun exposure during your recovery period. Don’t forget to use a high SPF sunscreen with more than 50 to avoid sun damage. (select soothing sunscreens with SPF 50 or 50+).

Remember to consult your skin expert or healthcare provider to find out if microneedling is interesting for your skin, which type would suit you best and which are the recommendations for your post-procedure skin care.

If you have been diagnosed with certain skin conditions, have had a recent radiation therapy or are pregnant, please inform your doctor before the procedure.
